At Kolese Kanisius in Jakarta, a single room was designed to serve five different uses: a classroom, an online-class studio, a screening room for students' own audiovisual assignments, a casual movie-watching space, and a venue for acoustic music recitals. Each use carries its own acoustic and playback demands, all inside the same footprint rather than five separate rooms. ALTA Integra's scope was the multi-disciplinary integration of the room's acoustic and multimedia systems — acoustic engineering and audiovisual design worked together rather than as separate add-ons, so that switching the room from one use to the next didn't mean compromising on any of them. A recital, for instance, calls for different reverberation and playback behaviour than a lecture or a movie screening, and the room's systems had to accommodate that range. Fitting five distinct programmes into one room is a common constraint in school facilities where space is limited. The general approach stays the same regardless of the specific room: design the acoustic treatment and AV systems around the most demanding use case in each dimension — speech intelligibility for teaching, playback fidelity for screenings, and natural acoustic response for recitals — rather than picking one use and treating the rest as secondary.
