Architectural Acoustics Design for the Bank Mandiri Club Function Hall

Architectural Acoustics Design for the Bank Mandiri Club Function Hall

Alta Integra was appointed acoustic consultant for the function hall renovation of Mandiri Club at Plaza Mandiri in South Jakarta, using EASE acoustic modeling software to design a room suited to both speech and live music events. This case study covers the brief, the modeling parameters used, and the project team.

Project Background

Bank Mandiri Indonesia planned to renovate the Mandiri Club at Plaza Mandiri, located at Jalan Mataram Street 1 No. 3, South Jakarta. The renovation included a second-floor function room intended for VIP partner events — seminars, gala dinners, multimedia presentations, and live acoustic music. PT Studio-T Transintrasia, the project's architectural planner, appointed Alta Integra as acoustic consultant for the function hall.

Acoustic Modeling Approach

Alta Integra modeled and evaluated the function room's architectural acoustics using EASE simulation software, assessing five parameters against the interior design:

Sound Pressure Level (SPL) — how loud sound is at listening positions throughout the room.
Reverberation Time (RT60) — how long sound persists after its source stops, a key driver of speech clarity and musical character.
Clarity — the balance between early, useful reflections and later reflections that can blur sound.
Speech Transmission Index (STI) — how intelligible spoken word remains across the room.
Bass Ratio — the balance of low-frequency reverberation relative to mid-frequencies, which affects perceived warmth and boominess.

Evaluating all five together let Alta Integra give design recommendations that met acoustic targets while working within — and complementing — the existing interior design, rather than requiring the interior scheme to be reworked around the acoustics.

Project Team

The function hall renovation brought together Studio T as architect and primary planner, Alta Integra as acoustics and noise control consultant, and VOKUZcom as audio-video system integrator — a coordination pattern consistent with Alta Integra's other hospitality and corporate function-space projects.

Alta Integra's Ongoing Expertise

Alta Integra continues to apply EASE-based acoustic modeling — SPL, reverberation time, clarity, STI, and bass ratio — to function halls, corporate auditoriums, and multi-use event spaces across Indonesia.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EASE software used for in acoustic design?
EASE (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers) is acoustic modeling software used to simulate how sound behaves in a room — sound pressure level, reverberation, clarity, and speech intelligibility — before construction, so design changes are cheaper to make.

Why does bass ratio matter in a function hall?
Bass ratio compares low-frequency reverberation to mid-frequency reverberation. An unbalanced bass ratio can make a room sound boomy or thin, affecting both speech clarity and music quality.

Can one room work well for both seminars and live acoustic music?
Yes, with careful acoustic design. A room modeled and treated to balance speech transmission index and reverberation time can support both formal spoken events and live music, which was the goal for the Mandiri Club function hall.

Why coordinate acoustic design with the interior designer instead of designing acoustics in isolation?
Acoustic treatment — absorptive and reflective surfaces — is physically part of the interior. Coordinating early avoids conflicts between the acoustic solution and the visual design intent.

Does Alta Integra design acoustics for corporate and banking-sector clients?
Yes. Alta Integra provides architectural acoustics consulting for banking, corporate, and hospitality function spaces, as on this project for Bank Mandiri.
