Food Empire occupies roughly 3,700 square metres on the fourth floor of Emporium Pluit Mall in Jakarta. As the mall approached its tenth anniversary, management renovated the space to move it away from a conventional food court toward a restaurant-like dining destination — a shift in ambition that changed what the lighting needed to do. ALTA Integra developed the lighting strategy alongside Metaphor Interior Architecture, delivering the full programme — concept development, tender documentation, construction review, mock-ups, and commissioning — in about 90 days. Rather than a single blanket of illumination, the space was lit in layers: ambient lighting for a comfortable baseline, accent lighting on architectural features and tenant frontage, decorative pendants over seating clusters to bring the scale down and add intimacy, and task lighting at the food counters. Warm-white colour temperature and high colour rendering were calculated per zone in DIALux Evo and checked on site through lighting mock-ups before installation, with fixtures integrated into the ceiling plane rather than applied as an afterthought. Lighting control was organised into switching scenes for business hours, cleaning, maintenance, and energy-saving operation, and the infrastructure was kept modular so future tenant changes wouldn't require major rework. The result moved Food Empire from a relatively dark, purely functional food court to a brighter, warmer dining environment.
