Acoustic Consultant
Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) · 2022 · Jakarta, ID
Jakarta International Stadium was built to meet FIFA standards and Greenship Platinum certification as an international football venue, while also functioning as a large-scale live-music concert stadium, a dual program that puts very different demands on the same bowl. Speech intelligibility for match-day announcements and ceremonial broadcast has to hold up alongside sound-quality expectations for concerts, with reverberation time, sound system design, spectator noise, and environmental noise all weighed against the same technical standards. ALTA Integra was brought in as acoustic consultant to review and optimise the stadium's acoustic design, covering both the bowl itself and its supporting spaces, the newsroom, commentator positions, athlete areas, and control rooms, each with its own room-acoustic requirements for its specific function within the venue. That review was carried out for owner Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), alongside architect PDW Architects and design partners Buro Happold and Jakkon, a scope built around optimising an already-designed bowl rather than starting from a blank site, since the stadium's acoustic design needed review and sign-off after the building's form was set. As one of Jakarta's flagship public venues, the brief had to serve two different audiences in the same bowl: the broadcast and matchday crowd needing clear, standards-compliant announcements, and the concert crowd needing a sound-quality bar closer to a dedicated music venue, a balance the optimisation work was scoped to hold without requiring the bowl itself to be rebuilt for either use case.
