Dunia Fantasi Ancol's Kereta Misteri (The Mystery Coaster) is an indoor, horror-themed Intamin family launch coaster running through a 5,500-square-meter, 15-meter-high enclosed volume at speeds up to 64 km/h. ALTA Integra developed the professional lighting design concept behind the ride, treating the brief less as standard architectural lighting and more as experiential engineering: control exactly what riders can and cannot see, at speed, without ever breaking the dark. The concept runs on a layered lighting hierarchy, near-total blackout ("the pitch absolute") punctuated by high-contrast, narrow-beam reveals timed to narrative triggers such as the werewolf animatronics or track-switch zones. Color was chosen for physiological effect rather than decoration: deep crimson and low-intensity cyan-blue tones exploit the Purkinje effect to keep riders' eyes dark-adapted while reinforcing the nighttime-hunt narrative. Individual scenes carry their own lighting logic, a DMX-scripted flickering neon sign that replicates a failing transformer rather than a simple blink cycle, a hidden laser projector and holographic scrim behind the tower windows staging a "flying ghost" synchronized with interior spot fixtures, ultra-warm 1800K spots cross-fading along the ceiling vaults to simulate a single candle flame moving through the corridors, and a three-phase sequence on the final climb, kinetic silhouette strobing on the ascent, a stark high-CRI "moonlight" beam on the werewolf reveal at the apex, then an instant cut to black on the backward drop, built to leave a retinal afterimage as the ride reverses. Underneath the show design sits a dual-mode control architecture: low-lux immersive programming during operating hours, switching to high-CRI white light for maintenance access to the 596-meter track and mechanical switch blocks. Emergency egress uses shielded, low-level photoluminescent and directional LED markers that stay invisible to riders at speed but light a clear path out if the ride stops. The system runs on DMX/RDM or Art-Net show control synchronized to track-position sensors, with sealed, high-IP-rated solid-state LED fixtures chosen for the dust, vibration, and continuous-duty conditions inside a high-throughput dark ride.
