PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), the natural gas transmission and processing subsidiary of Indonesia's state oil and gas company Pertamina, operates a gas processing facility in Palembang, South Sumatra. In 2018, ALTA Integra carried out an environmental and occupational noise assessment for the facility. The scope was acoustic engineering applied to an active industrial process facility: measuring existing noise levels at the site and its surrounding environment, modelling how that noise propagates from equipment and process areas, and identifying mitigation measures to bring both occupational exposure and environmental noise into compliance with Indonesian regulatory standards. That measure-model-mitigate sequence is standard practice for industrial noise assessment, but it has to be carried out against the specific equipment, layout, and surroundings of each facility rather than applied generically. A gas processing plant's noise sources — compressors, piping, process units — sit close to both workers and, depending on the site, the surrounding environment, which is what the occupational and environmental halves of the assessment each had to account for at Pertamina Gas's Palembang facility.
