RuBIK (Rumah Budaya Indonesia Kaya) is a new theater and concert hall complex in Permata Hijau, Jakarta, developed under Shimizu Corporation's project leadership with SHAU Architects, interior design by Domisilium, structural engineering by Davy Sukamta & Partners, MEP by Meinhardt, WSP, and room acoustics by Nagata Acoustics Japan. The program covers a 1,200-seat main theater and concert hall, a 300-seat black box theater, rehearsal and educational spaces, and exhibition facilities, built with support from the Djarum Foundation's Bakti Budaya program. ALTA Integra's scope covered building acoustics and environmental noise, working to a background noise target of NC-25 in the main hall — with certain scenarios pushing toward NC-20 — well below the NC-35 to NC-45 of a typical office or NC-30 to NC-35 of a hotel room. That meant reviewing background noise criteria for every space, an environmental noise assessment, Sound Transmission Class (STC) and Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class (OITC) evaluation of the walls, partitions, and building envelope between the theater and lobby, concert hall and support spaces, rehearsal rooms and classrooms, and the black box theater and adjacent functions, plus HVAC noise control: duct sizing and air velocity to limit airflow turbulence, fan silencers and acoustic lining, vibration isolation — spring isolators, inertia bases, floating equipment platforms — to keep structure-borne noise out of the hall, and diffuser selection tuned to stay acoustically invisible above the seats. The review extended to how the building's own equipment — including emergency generators — reads from the surrounding residential neighborhood, addressing engine, cooling-fan, intake, exhaust, and structure-borne noise through acoustic louvers, silencers, equipment placement, and noise barriers. During construction, ALTA Integra reviewed acoustic lagging drawings and on-site mock-ups of the plumbing and HVAC ductwork to confirm the specified treatments were installed as designed.
