Health Building Certification

WELL Building

WELL Building certification puts occupant health at the centre of every design decision — not as an add-on wellness feature, but as the organising principle across air, water, light, movement, and mind. As a WELL-certification consultant based in Jakarta, ALTA Integra leads WELL certification across air, water, light, movement, and mind to put occupant health at the centre of the design.

Our scope covers concept-by-concept gap analysis against the WELL Building Standard, precondition and optimisation feature selection matched to a project's realistic budget and building type, coordination of physical features (air filtration, circadian lighting, active-design stairs) alongside policy features (mental-health programming, healthy-food access), and preparation for the mandatory WELL Performance Verification testing that certifies real, measured conditions rather than design intent alone.

We work across disciplines that WELL touches simultaneously — MEP for air quality, lighting for circadian features, acoustics for the sound concept, and building operations for policy features — because WELL certifies an integrated outcome, not five separate checklists submitted in parallel.

Living Building Challenge

The Living Building Challenge is deliberately the most demanding certification a building can pursue — it asks a building to perform like a flower, generating its own energy and treating its own water, not just reducing harm. As a Living Building Challenge consultant based in Jakarta, ALTA Integra guides projects toward the most rigorous standard for regenerative, net-positive buildings.

Our scope covers petal-by-petal feasibility assessment (Place, Water, Energy, Health & Happiness, Materials, Equity, Beauty), net-positive energy and water system design, Red List material screening to eliminate the certification's list of harmful chemicals from every specified product, and the twelve-month post-occupancy performance-verification period the standard requires before certification is finally awarded.

Because the Living Building Challenge certifies actual measured performance over a full operating year, not a design intent, we build in the metering and monitoring infrastructure from day one, and coordinate closely with building operations throughout that verification year — since a single missed month of net-positive data can affect a certification years in the making.

Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality affects cognitive function, respiratory health, and long-term wellbeing more directly than almost any other building factor — and poor IAQ is invisible until it's measured. As an indoor-air-quality consultant based in Jakarta, ALTA Integra optimizes ventilation, filtration, and material selection to deliver clean, healthy indoor air that supports wellbeing.

Our scope covers ventilation-rate design and verification against ASHRAE 62.1, filtration-strategy selection (MERV rating, activated carbon for VOCs) matched to actual local outdoor air quality, low-emitting material specification to reduce off-gassing at the source rather than filtering it after the fact, and continuous IAQ monitoring for particulates, CO2, and VOCs so problems are caught in operation, not just at initial testing.

We measure actual field performance — not just design calculations — using the same class of instruments (particulate counters, VOC analysers, CO2 sensors) used across our health-certification and acoustic-measurement practice, because indoor air quality that looks correct on a ventilation schedule can still fail in practice if filtration or source control wasn't executed as specified.

Acoustic Comfort

Noise is one of the most common occupant complaints in any building type, and one of the most preventable when acoustic comfort is designed in rather than patched after complaints start. As a health-certification acoustic-comfort consultant based in Jakarta, ALTA Integra manages noise, reverberation, and speech privacy so spaces feel calm and support focus and wellbeing.

Our scope covers background-noise-criteria (NC/RC) targets tuned to space function, reverberation-time design for speech clarity in meeting and healing spaces, speech-privacy design between enclosed offices and open-plan neighbours, and mechanical-noise control so HVAC systems installed for comfort don't become the room's own noise problem. We draw directly on our acoustic-engineering practice's full measurement and modelling toolkit, since health-certification acoustic comfort and our core acoustic-consulting work use the same underlying science.

We verify acoustic comfort with field measurement against ANSI/ASA S12.60 and WELL's acoustic feature requirements — because occupants judge acoustic comfort by what they hear in the finished space, not by a specification document.

Circadian Lighting

Human bodies still run on a light-driven biological clock, and lighting that ignores that fact can quietly undermine sleep, mood, and alertness even while meeting every conventional illuminance code. As a circadian-lighting consultant based in Jakarta, ALTA Integra designs human-centric lighting that supports natural circadian rhythms, improving sleep, mood, and daytime alertness.

Our scope covers melanopic-lux and equivalent-melanopic-lux (EML) design to WELL's circadian-lighting feature requirements, tunable-white lighting-control programming that shifts colour temperature and intensity across the day, daylight-integration strategy so electric lighting supplements rather than fights natural circadian cues, and glare and flicker control since a circadian-correct spectrum still fails if it causes visual discomfort.

We measure actual circadian metrics at eye level with spectrometric instruments rather than relying on manufacturer photometric data alone, and commission lighting-control programming against real occupancy and daylight patterns — confirming the space delivers the intended circadian support throughout an actual working day, not just at a single test setting.

Biophilic Design

Access to nature, daylight, and natural materials measurably reduces stress and strengthens the connection between people and place — biophilic design makes that connection deliberate rather than accidental. As a biophilic-design consultant based in Jakarta, ALTA Integra integrates nature, daylight, and natural materials to reduce stress and strengthen the connection between people and place.

Our scope covers direct-nature integration (living walls, water features, indoor planting) sized realistically for a building's maintenance capacity, natural-material and biomorphic-pattern specification that evokes nature even where live plants aren't practical, view-access analysis to nature or landscape from regularly occupied spaces, and non-rhythmic sensory stimuli (natural airflow, dappled light) that WELL and biophilic-design research both recognise as restorative.

We design biophilic features for long-term viability, not opening-day appearance — species selection suited to available light and maintenance regimes, and material choices that age well — because a biophilic feature that dies or degrades within a year undermines the wellbeing outcome it was meant to deliver.
