Alta Integra Wins Mandiri University Design Competition
In late 2017, Alta Integra won a design competition to become the acoustic, audiovisual and lighting consultant for Mandiri University, a new campus Mandiri Bank was building on 4 acres of land in its Wijaya Kusuma Complex in West Jakarta. Competing against consultants from Singapore and other top Indonesian firms, Alta Integra came out on top for a project designed to support Mandiri Bank's long-term ambition to build a prominent, professionally developed workforce across the ASEAN region.
Why Mandiri University Was Built
The ASEAN Economic Community gives local companies an opportunity to expand across a region of more than 600 million people, supported by free movement of goods, services and investment — but only companies with sufficient human capital can capture that opportunity. With a goal of becoming a prominent bank across ASEAN, Mandiri Bank made professional development a strategic priority, based on the belief that life-long learning is critical to preparing capable bankers and leaders for a changing business environment. Mandiri University was designed by Duta Cermat Mandiri (DCM), the local partner of Australian architecture firm Denton Corker Marshall, and themed as a green building designed to minimize energy and water use.
Facade Lighting Design: Branding as an Urban Icon
Alta Integra's team proposed a communicative facade lighting solution that expresses Mandiri Bank's brand identity. Equipped with a dynamic linear control system, the facade lighting design resembles a golden liquid flowing continuously inward — a visual metaphor for continuous learning as part of Mandiri Bank's corporate culture. The lighting design was also intended to highlight the building's architecture as an iconic landmark within West Jakarta's urban nightscape.
Lecture Hall: Advanced Classroom AV Integration
Alta Integra's audiovisual design proposal for the lecture hall features smart glass technology with electrically switchable opacity, giving each panel dual functionality as either a window or a projector screen. When switched to screen mode, the glass shifts from transparent to opaque within a second. The audiovisual system was also designed to integrate with lighting control, automatically reducing luminous intensity in the room whenever the projector is in use.
Alta Integra's Expertise Today
This win remains one of Alta Integra's key project references in competitive, integrated acoustic, lighting and AV design for large institutional campuses — the same combination of disciplines the firm continues to apply on education, corporate and green-building projects today.
