Why the Starting Point Is the Occupant, Not the Criterion

An acoustic consultant optimising objective acoustic criteria — hitting an ideal reverberation time — is necessary but not sufficient for a space that actually sounds right to the people using it. A room can meet its numeric target and still be unpleasant, because the target is a proxy for an experience rather than the experience itself.
